Approximately half of patients with diagnosed PTSD report experiencing nightmares in the wake of the traumatic event. Post-traumatic nightmares may contain detailed memories of the traumatic event itself, but they don’t always; some incorporate themes or a sense of danger from the trauma but don’t replay the event verbatim.
